We finally could take the boat out to the cabin instead of “walking” there. Always a bit of excitement as we never know what will be waiting for us. Our Dock this time and was heading out to the BWCA. Our dock is built on a rock crib and is permanent. This years ice and snow made the river much higher and washed our dock off the crib. What to do??? No one wanted to go into the frigid water to rebuild it but, we need our dock and we have guests coming in a few days. so dear, sweet (and brave) Mark and our dear friend (who is also brave) Jim, braved the temps and rebuilt the dock. First the crib needs to be repositioned and refiled with rocks. Which meant reaching down into the water and hauling up rock to hold the crib in place.Leveling it with rocks, all the time teeth were chattering. No room for error as they place the dock frame over the crib. Our dock is now back in working order but most importantly, the 2 guys survived and made the dock even stronger in the process. Springtime surprises in Northern Minnesota and the edge of the BWCA.

It has been awhile since I last blogged and will try harder to keep everyone informed. The Adventure Inn has been enjoying Ely’s great winter season. We have great ice for ice fishing. No slush and thick enough for ice roads. Nordic skiing at its best. Groomed trails and my favorite back country skiing in the BWCA. Snowshoeing is now possible in the forest. Our snowmobile trails are groomed and have enough snow for most any trail you want. We are also starting to do some room renovations at the Adventure Inn and hope to continue to improve our accommodations. We will post pictures as we get the rooms finished. All of us at the Adventure Inn want to thank all of our guests and visitors who come to Ely and chose to stay with us.

With the warmer weather comes new carpets, new paint and new mattresses.
The biggest challenge is to find carpets w/o formaldehyde! Try it sometime. We seach high and low for easy care carpet without the odor. No VOC paint is easy enough as there are now more regulations on how much VOCs can be available and there are great paints without. I highly recommend Behr paint from Home Depot. No odor, no headache and best of all, beautiful finish, coverage and colors.
We are redoing our 2 bedroom Kitchen Suites right now and opting for a soft brown. We also have added sound barriers to the floor to aid in keeping the folks downstairs from hearing activity above them.
My spring bulbs that I planted last fall are peeking out of the ground right now and I am so very excited to get my flower beds growing, along with adding large pots of flowers. I have put a shout out to friends for “donations” of hostas to start my Hosta garden. Sharing plants with friends is like sharing hugs every day. As I work in the beds, I always think of the person who gifted a particular plant. I also like to reciprocate in kind to share the “love”

Our solar panels are cranking the hot water. Even on overcast days we still recover some heat. It has been a godsend to send that hot water through our radiators, infloor heat and through the tap. Some days, I had to resort to using all hot water to do laundry. What gift from the sun.
